Accidents in the Home

What kinds of accidents in the home do you think are prevalent in Thailand? How do you think the number of such accidents can be reduced?

  1. In my opinion, home accident that usually happens in Thailand is house fire. Many people are burned and die due to house fire. I think that the weather in Thailand is very hot especially in hot summer months and people in Thailand usaully use burning to clear residental area so that, conditions ideal for fire to break out . Moreover, the most common causes of house fire are cooking equipment and electrical equipment. To reduce this problem, you have to double check burning area when you use burning to clear residental landscapes , when you cooking you should stay in the room or ask someone to watch your food and you shold double check the appliances and power in your house.

    3. Interesting post. By saying that fire is used to clear residential areas, do you mean people use it to burn garden rubbish such as branches, grass clippings and old cardboard boxes or do you mean people use fires to destroy and clear unwanted residences? Some clarification, please. :-)

    6. It's true, in Thailand there still no efficient fire team to put down fire.

    7. So some regions don't have fire brigades?

    8. We need to be conscious all the time and check the device every time after use.

    9. Another important thing is to have a fire extinguisher in the house because fire protection from small to large area is better.

    10. In Thailand have fire brigades but in the other region hard to reach espeactially congestion area.

  2. In my opinions, the most prevalent accident in the home in Thailand is falls. The highest prevalence of falling down appear in elderly, particularly they have many medical conditions that it cause by muscle weakness, poor eye view, messy home, falling down the stairs and so on. Other is that it is high in children, especially they are a toddler because they are interested in learning new things sometimes they climb the stairs, a chair and a table then falling down. To reduce the number of such accidents can be followed by
    - Don’t keep things on the floor or stairs
    - Keep sidewalks clean.
    - Install lights on the walkway around your home and at the top and bottom of stairs.
    - Use a cane or a walker to helping walk in elderly who has disability or muscle weakness.
    - Use a rubble pad for area rugs such as at the toilet and bottom of the step.
    - Install safety gates for small children.
    - Keep a very close eye on your children.

    2. When you think about the impact a single fall can have on your health, it really reminds you of the need to be careful. The main place I sometimes slip is in our bath. I have to remember to take care when getting in or out of the bath.

    3. The place people fall not only in the bathroom but also the stair too because most of home in Northeastern Thailand has 2 floors and many steps, the bedroom might be on the second floor. So elderly or children has a probability to fall when they go down the stair.

    4. That good,In my opinion If the home has elderly should prepare the home to prevent accident.

    9. Right. For toddlers, parents should keep their eyes on their children to ensure that there is no harm to them. In case of abandoned elders, it is so difficult to manage proper environment for them individually, the best way would be to encourage the younger generation to look after them closely.

    10. that is a big problem when the elderly fall down many complicated issues have resulted in long term care.

  3. Kinds of accidents in the home do you think are prevalent in Thailand. Let’s talk about in the elderly, the most common occurrence in the elderly is falling in the bathroom. From the statistics of accidents in the older people is slipping in the bathroom makes them fracture hip at number one. In addition, if there is first fall, then there will be next so the elderly fear of fall and do not want to go. The last one, eventually become to bed riddent and death.
The solution accidents can be reduce. Firstly, make the bathroom floor dry. Secondly, equipped with bathroom accessories that are suitable for the elderly, such as slippery floor and bath chair etc. Finally, standard bathroom for the elderly such as the handle to sit.
All this helps the elderly to reduce all accidents. It is important for family to help and support the elderly because the most important. ❤️

    4. In my experienced, I used to go to home visit elderly patient . I assess a home environment to assess home safety such as bathroom, which is quite not safe, it depends on economic in each family, generally, they don't have a rubble pad, don't have toilet handrails and don't have shower seat. These are one of many factors that harm to elderly who has difficult to move.

  7. From my practical teaching experience in the hospital. Most of the accidents that occur in families with young children between the aged 6 months to 3 years to come to the hospital with a hot scalp. Patients should be treated with anesthesia to wound dressing and take antibiotics as they must be closely monitored to prevent dehydration and infection. Also, if the area of hot water is burnt to the area where the tissue is fragile or the crook is likely to cause pulling of the skin resulting in organ failure. Have a disability as a result. So what parents with children in the house should have kept the kettle. In fact, the milk does not need to use hot water to milk. Nurses or health care workers should advise families to prevent accidents with hot water to infants at all times.

    1. Most young children are not aware of the dangerous of new things because they have no experience about it and they would like to explore everything themselves so that many accidents frequency happened to them. Adults should know their developments and look after them carefully.

    3. Perhaps not only are gates necessary to stop children falling down stairs, they are also necessary to stop them entering kitchens. That is where water is boiled.
In NZ, we have 'play pens' which can safely enclose infants while keeping them visible and allowing them to see us too. Are 'play pens' available in Thailand?

Have a disability as a result. So what parents with children in the house should have kept the kettle because of Hot drinks cause most burns and scalds to children under the age of five and, of course, children should be kept a safe distance away from open fires, cookers, irons, hair straighteners and matches, as these can be dangerous too. Any burn should be held under cold running water for ten minutes and then assessed. Having a clean plastic bag or cling film in your first aid kit can be an ideal way to cover burns to keep them clean and help them to heal.

  9. Personally, in Thailand is facing the electrical issue. This problem is so fetal that can harm everyone to death. Most of fire that occur at home mostly come from electrical shock. It can cause burn, heart damage and body system failure. Many patients are losing their job from organs ambulated. Few people aware of it and do not have regular wire checked. Electric shock could be prevent by using high quality equipment and do not leave any electronic tools on when leaving home.

can be reduce the number of such accidents:
    - Should use stone or tile flooring is not slippery, rough skin.
    - Should install a sturdy handrail to hold.
    - scrubing the bathroom floor at least once a week.

Due to hot weather in Thailand, most houses were built in two stories and most of them did not have fall protections. I usually dispensed medications used to treat fall accidents. Furthermore, burn is the main problem because most of Thai people use fire to cook and it easy to reach. Sometimes, children can run in to kitchens and touch cookwares easily that cause burn accidents.
