What kinds of learning activities do you believe were most valuable? How do you think your experience here has changed you as a person?

  1. In my opinion, I think my communication is better because I dare to speak more English. In my writing, I did not do well, but it was a great way to write more articles. In terms of learning activities, I think that promoting English learning is more about listening and speaking, because these activities must be based on the environment as a stimulus to learning with the learner to make yourself better. This change of me, I try to improve myself in practicing all four English skills and will continue to develop myself.

    1. It is a good strategy to dare to speak more English. The motto of the SAS is "Who dares, wins" and I think that philosophy can be applied to English language learning. All the best for your future!

  2. I have lots of experience in Dunedin, when I studied at UOLC many facilities give me. For example, give me a good teacher Sandra and David as a great teacher role model, you have to pay attention to teaching, calm, have a variety of teaching methods and understood in the Thai people. We are comfortable when I studied with you.

In my English skill, I did improve. In my opinion, the listening skill is the best for me and the courage to speak English there is so much more. However, I am not sure if my skills will make enough of my IELTS score.

Kinds of learning activities do I believe were most valuable is the seminar because I have a real situation in the seminar in NZ country do not speak slow for the international student. I think in the future, I don't scary when I study overseas.

My experience here has changed mine as a person is turning me into a dare to use English, dare to say, even if wrong. Not shy and ready to learn correctly.

    1. Living in an environment where English is used everyday, will definitely have improved your fluency. It is great that you now know how to choose reading material of an appropriate level, too. Continue to read such material everyday to consolidate and then build upon the gains you have made so far. Use your concern for correct spelling and grammar to motivate you to check over the writing you do. All the best for the future.

  4. The first thing I have got here is experience in English speaking culture. I can say this is my first time living in English speaking country, so far I get used to the new culture. I can greet people I have even known, I usually talk about daily activities during dinner with my host family.
Secondly, before I come here, I always feel nervous to speak English due to being afraid of mistakes but now I dare to speak out and I can ask for repeating when I do not understand. And I feel more familiar with spoken English.

The activities you gave me and I think they are worth for me are reading out lound, new vocabularies, book club

Read out lound : I feel comfortable to read words and sentences and I usually try to practice my pronunciation and intonation

New vocabularies: hundreds of words you gave us are valuable and useful in both reading and speaking actually listening and writing as well.

Book clubs: Even though reading is not my cup of tea, I have tried to read LOL. As the matter of fact, I learn better by listening. And I think I’ll continue reading T T

    1. It is great that living in NZ and participating in this programme has given you the confidence to speak English & to indicate to your conversation partner when you do not understand something.
As learning by listening is a preferred strategy, books with an accompanying audio file might be a good choice for you.
All the best for your future!

  5. Having been here is such a lovely experience for me as I have learned at least two skills: English skills and life skills. For life skills, I have learned how to adapt to my host family, how to change some bad habits in order to fit with their routines. I wouldn't have got rid of those unhealthy behaviors if I hadn't been here. For English, I think, my spoken English is improved, even though not that ovbious. Apart from that, I develop critically thinking from writing classes. Finally, I believe that " reading" and "playing games" in English are the most effective way to learn English effortlessly, and they are always my favourite.

    1. I'm impressed that you were able to develop as a person through your experience here. Eliminating bad habits is a very challenging undertaking. Your post has reminded me to take up the challenge to eliminate my bad habits. I agree with you that 'games' can be a particularly effective tool for language learning. They have many aspects that are motivating e.g. problem solving and competition aspects.

  6. I have been learning English skills in an English speaking country. To be honest, I think I dare to speak English, learned to use correct grammar and use proper vocabularies when I am writing, try to understand topics and conclude contents after reading and concentrate on signposts and keywords when I am listening. Everything I have been learning from the class, it plenty of knowledge and experience but I need more time to change my bad English habits after that I think my English might be improved.
The activity that I think very useful was a book club because it's integrated into all skills of learning such as reading, writing, listening and speaking. Overall, I must keep going and don't give up to learn English.

    1. Absolutely, keep going. "Never say die!" Noticing signpost expressions when listening is a useful strategy.
I am glad that you enjoyed book club. Try to maintain the habit of reading 'graded material' on your return to Thailand.
      Go well!

  8. I have gotten great experience in here, especially New Zealand culture and English language. In terms of New Zealand culture, I have learned, how to adapt myself with others by learning my host family life style so that I tried to change my habits that is proper for me and them to live. I have a good opportunity to be with lovely host family. They cooked delicious Kiwi food for me and touch me,how i can cook it. Moreover they brought me to interesting places in New Zealand such as Purakuanui where I had a chance to catch clams for cooking.
In terms of English, I have leaned important skills that I have to use to improve my IELTS score. I think that all of my English skills are improved especially listening and speaking skill. In addition, I think that academic vocabularies that teachers have given us is very important because if we know many English words, it can help us to understand how to use it and what English sentences mean.

For speaking skills, I have learned to speak more gramatically corrects, what I means by I be more awared of the ending and -s at the end of singular verb. The most effective method for me is the presentation. In writing espect, I love the rewrite assignment, I wish I can do it every week. Furthermore, my reading not really improved I thought this skill needs own practice. I love the book club, it encourages me to reafd more. I gained listening skill and it rises dramatically in the forth week.
